The Training, Research & Development Unit successfully organized an in-house training programme on “Best Practices in Steel Roof Design, Detailing & Installation” on 12th February 2026, sponsored and partnered by Sterling Steels (Pvt) Ltd.
The session was conducted by Eng. Lalindra Sandeepa, Head of Engineering at Sterling Steels (Pvt) Ltd, who holds a B.Sc. Eng. (Hons) from University of Moratuwa and is a member of AMIE(SL) and AMSSF(SL).
Approximately 100 participants attended the programme, including Engineers, Architects, Technical Assistants, Engineering Assistants, and Technical Officers. The session provided comprehensive insights into:
- Structural design concepts of roofing systems, purlins, and decking
- Selection of materials, including roofing sheets, purlins, fasteners, and insulation
- Relevant SLS / BS / AS standards for roofing and fasteners, with emphasis on durability
- Proper detailing of steel roof systems
- Best practices in steel roof installation
- Maintenance guidelines for long-term performance of steel roofing systems
The programme served as a valuable knowledge-sharing platform, enhancing participants’ understanding of industry standards, practical detailing methods, and installation best practices to ensure durable and high-performance steel roofing systems.
